Joint Statement by Football Supporters Clubs in Hong Kong, 4 Sep 2019
After issuing statements on 1 Sep 2019, we have noticed that some football fan organisations of certain regions have held different opinions towards the statements issued by football supporters clubs in Hong Kong (“the supporters clubs”). In light of this, we are making this joint statement to express our solidarity.
We would like to reiterate that our intention of issuing statements was not to promote any political stance and views on behalf of both the supporters club and the respective football club/teams we support. On the contrary, we believe each supporters club are inclusive of members of holding different political views and that the only matter at hand is not a matter of politics, but rather, conscience. Therefore, the supporters clubs issued statements on the basis of humanity and the safety of their own members.
We gather to jointly condemn the abuse of power and violence by the Hong Kong Police Force. In the past three months, bloody and violent scenes were seen in Hong Kong almost every day, much of which were caused by police. They even attacked innocent and unarmed citizens, breaking every Hongkonger’s heart and causing countless sleepless nights.
We emphasise that everyone should respect the rule of law. We also do not want to see any more people to be injured or even killed by the violent acts of the police.
We hereby encourage all members of the Hong Kong Police Force to remember their oath by heart: “I will execute the powers and duties of my office honestly, faithfully and diligently without fear of or favour to any person and with malice or ill-will toward none”.
In this difficult time, the various supporters club will stand together with each other and fellow Hongkongers.
